St. Oliver's Community College

Crest of Drogheda

Hello and Welcome!

Eamon Cooney

St. Oliver's Community College is a second-level school which offers a unique opportunity for academic achievement combined with superb facilities for both indoor and outdoor activities. The College is set in a 19-acre campus on the banks of the Boyne.

The aim of the College is to equip young people with the necessary academic, social and cultural background required for life. While being justifiably proud of its success since it first opened in 1980 the College continues to adapt itself to the educational requirements of a changing world.

Looking back on the past year in St. Oliver's !!

Mr. T. Mahon
Principal

May Mc Bride 1995 - 1996 has been a year of innovation in St. Oliver’s. The decision by the Minister of Education, Niamh Bhreathnach, to allocate a second Vice Principal to larger schools has allowed us to place the necessary emphasis on the worthwhile development of an excellent administrative structure within our school. This reflects a new direction in education, allowing, among other things, an even closer relationship between the school and the wider community.

May McBride
Vice Principal

Mary Donaghy Recently St. Oliver's gained a second vice-principal in the person of Ms Donaghy. Having a management team of three makes a big difference in the day-to-day running of the school. The current Minister of Education has done a lot towards improving the staffing levels of St. Oliver's. After all, the college is much bigger than many businesses and, indeed, is more like a small town ... or one extremely big family!

History Of St. Oliver's Community College

The College is named after St. Oliver Plunkett, who is known as "Ireland's Last Martyr." The College was built in 1980, and currently has around one-thousand, two-hundred pupils and eighty teachers, it is one of the biggest secondary schools in Ireland.

The sculpture outside the school, known as 'The Source', can be seen even before you come in the front gates, was created by students working with local sculptor Ronan Halpin. "The Source" was officially unveiled on April 27th, 1990 by members of Clannaid and local composer/musician Michael O'Houlihan prepared a remarkable piece of music for the occasion. The three cones are decorated with images representing motifs from Boyne valley.
