Domestic Science


C. TOURISM, HOSPITALITY AND CATERING SKILLS
(6 periods for one term)
This course covers three areas of study:

Tourism - students will be facilitated in developing and awareness of:
  • (a) the economic and social impact of international and domestic tourism.
  • (b) the significance of the Irish geographical features and physical environment tourism today and in the future.


  • Hospitality - students will be introduced to accommodation service skills and their application in the hotel, catering and tourism industry today.

    Catering - students will prepare, cook and serve meals with a view to running a small guest house.

    During the course each student will be required to do a detailed study of one tourist attraction or amenity and submit some in the form of a project for assessment.

    On completion of the course a certificate of competence will be awarded to all successful students.
