Introduction

[Library Photo] The school was founded in 1965 under the patronage of the Daughters of Charity. It was then called Marillac Secondary School. The first Leaving Certificate was taken in 1970 and students were prepared for Third Level Education.

In 1971, The Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus took over the school and in 1977 when their foundress, St. Raphaela Mary was canonised, the name changed to St. Raphaela's Secondary School.

The Handmaids, an international Religious Congregation founded in Spain in 1877, is dedicated to Education in Faith and daily adoration of the Blessed Sacrament exposed in our Chapels. There are over 140 Handmaid Convents in four Continents.

The present school was built in 1986 and another wing was added in 1995.
