GENERAL INFORMATION

The College is situated on Emmet Road in the heart of Kilmainham near both the Royal Hospital and Kilmainham Goal. It is very accessible for students travelling from many parts of Dublin (by bus and or DART) as well as Co Kildare and Co Meath. For those students who have to travel far distances the College provides a list of householders living near the College who offer student accommodation. The College also provides a canteen which serves tea, coffee, soup, sandwiches and light snacks throughout the day.

The College covers a wide range of Post Leaving Certificate courses leading to qualifications from several different examining bodies, such as Diplomas form the NCVA and CITY & GUILDS and Higher National Diplomas from BTEC as well as Degrees in Law and Economics from the University of London. The main courses offered at Inchicore include:

The College offers the students a comprehensive Counselling and Career Guidance service. Students are encouraged to explore the avenues available for further studies where applicable and are also prepared for joining the workforce directly.

SPORTS OVERVIEW

As the Leisure and Recreation Management course has the largest intake of students in the College there is a wide and comprehensive choice of sporting activities available. In most of the main sporting areas (such as Gaelic Football, Soccer, Hockey and Basketball) we are competing in Third Level Leagues and Cup competitions. In these areas we cater for both mens and womens teams. The students also participate in cross country events, athletics, badminton and swimming. The following sports areas have been taken as an example of what is happening at Inchicore.

MENS SOCCER

As Inchicore College is situated on Emmet Road opposite Richmond Park where St. Patrick's Athletic play it is no surprise that we have a strong tradition in soccer. We take part in two separate leagues:
  1. PLC League (for all PLC colleges in Ireland)
  2. The Belgrove Cup (for all senior students in the CDVEC)
So far this season we have achieved a lot of success winning all of our matches but one which we lost to Colaiste Ide, Finglas. However we are on course to qualify for both finals. Perhaps we will get a second chance to reverse that result against Colaiste Ide in one or both of the finals. These finals will be played on a League of Ireland pitch such as Richmond Park.

Some of our past players now playing in the League of Ireland include Ray Carolan (Shamrock Rovers) and James O'Callaghan (St Jame's Gate). Indeed some of our current players also play with League of Ireland clubs including: Peter Harlow (St Jame's Gate), Owen Feighery (St Jame's Gate), Eddie Meier (St Patrick's Athletic), Sean O'Brien (Bray Wanderers).

All of the players are eligible for selection to the Irish Colleges team. This team will travel to Italy next year to take part in the World Student Games Soccer Tournament. This year three Inchicore players were selected on the team - Peter Harlow, Eddie Meier and Conor McKeown.

Such is the interest in soccer in Inchicore we have two teams playing in the CDVEC Belgrove Cup competition. This allows a large number of students to represent the College and for some of the fringe players to play their way onto the first team. Some recent results include:

Inchicore 4 2 College of Commerce Cork
Inchicore 3 2 Ballyfermot Senior College
Inchicore 4 0 Dun Laoghaire Senior College

LADIES SOCCER

This is the first year that Inchicore College Ladies Soccer Club has taken part in the Ladies Soccer Colleges Association of Ireland. We achieved a lot of success during the season winning Division 2 and gaining promotion to Division 1 next season. We were also runners up in the Ladies Soccer Indoor Inter varsities and beaten finalists in the Challenge Cup.
The team had some of their best results in the Challenge Cup where they were drawn against Division 1 opposition in each round.

Round 1 Inchicore 5 0 Cork RTC
Round 2 Inchicore 6 1 Maynooth College
Round 3 Inchicore 3 2 Sligo RTC
FINAL Inchicore 0 2 Garda College

Five members of the team were selected to represent Leinster Colleges in the Inter provincial Tournament which was held in University Limerick: Amanda Deering, Brenda Murphy, Celine Dunne, Gwen Deering and Glenda Illing.
Four players are currently on the Irish Colleges Soccer panel: Siobhan Kane, Maria Hughes, Celine Dunne and Gwen Deering.
Inchicore took part in the recent Ladies Soccer Inter varsities which was held in UCD on the 7th, 8th and 9th March. They played DCU in the first round and were narrowly beaten by one goal to nil. However on the second day of the tournament they had an excellent victory over UCC 3 - 1. This qualified the team for the semi-final of the Plate where they met the tournament favourites UCD who had three international players in their squad. Despite this Inchicore took an early lead in the first half. It wasn't until late in the second half that UCD equalised and this took the game into extra time where UCD ran out eventual winners 2 - 1.
Inchicore Ladies combined with the men to win the ILAM mixed indoor soccer tournament held in Sportslink on 9th February 1996.

Overall Fixtures for the past year have included games against Dundalk RTC, Carlow RTC, Letterkenny RTC, Tralee RTC, Griffith College, UCD, UUC, TCD, DIT and DCU.

We recently hosted the O'Connor Cup weekend in Dublin where we were narrowly beaten by Tralee RTC in the Shield final (1-8 to 2-4).

In the cup final University of Limerick beat University of Ulster, Jordanstown (1-13 to 2-3). Our captain Aine King played some excellent football over the weekend and was nominated the runner up for the 'Player of the tournament' loosing out narrowly to another excellent player - Edel O'Gorman from University of Limerick.

Our girls are also eligible for selection to the Combined Colleges Inter provincial team which takes part in a one day tournament involving Leinster, Munster, Connaght, Ulster and London. Last year we had 5 girls on the team (the highest from any of the Colleges). namely Ann-Marie Curran, Collette Cummins - Westmeath, Aine King - Clare, Mary Galvin - Dublin and Eithne Murphy - Laois. The team ran out shield winners in their first outing. Our College should be represented well again this year.
